SAIL STRAIGHT
INTO THE STORM

Production Context

How the world came to exist.

01 / Production Context

The song that started the world.

Property, power, navigation and tide: the song supplies the questions that become the city.

The treatment gives the crisis a shape.

Two authenticated commands cannot both be obeyed. The treatment connects that contradiction to Maya, Gate 17, and a city that must learn to act with incomplete knowledge.

The first images.

Visual studies establish an ambition. Their lighting, shapes and implied action become questions for the model, not evidence that matching geometry already exists.

Six companion underwater studies

Preparing the descent

Crew prepares and lowers the amber-housed machine from a wet work deck into dark water. Supplied generated development study. Related source depiction of the municipal probe idea; does not certify exact identity or geometry match to the existing Blender vehicle.

Below the surface

The tethered amber probe descends beneath a surface vessel into the drowned waterfront. Supplied generated development study. Related source depiction of the municipal probe idea; does not certify exact identity or geometry match to the existing Blender vehicle.

The drowned street

The probe passes sunken road vehicles and street infrastructure, then enters a low opening. Supplied generated development study. Related source depiction of the municipal probe idea; does not certify exact identity or geometry match to the existing Blender vehicle.

A break in the accepted city

A close inspection of a submerged wall widens to reveal a deep structural breach. Supplied generated development study. Related source depiction of the municipal probe idea; does not certify exact identity or geometry match to the existing Blender vehicle.

Through the service layer

The probe travels through a lit circular service conduit and emerges into a submerged built space. Supplied generated development study. Related source depiction of the municipal probe idea; does not certify exact identity or geometry match to the existing Blender vehicle.

Where the water actually goes

The probe crosses a dark utility corridor beside heavy structures, moving water and visible sediment. Supplied generated development study. Related source depiction of the municipal probe idea; does not certify exact identity or geometry match to the existing Blender vehicle.

The city learns to exist.

V46

Across the city / 120 seconds

Earlier retained flight; exact release date not established in the recovered record.

What changed. The first retained continuous city flythrough gives the model a route and a human viewpoint.

What remained open. It predates the later architecture, waterworks and vessel passes.

V50

Maya Chen / Across the city, 2047

Delivered 6 September 2026.

What changed. Occupied architecture, route refinement and Maya’s fictional narration connect places into a journey.

What remained open. It predates V52 systems and remains a historical movie.

V52

Across the waterfront / V52 R14

R14 delivery 11 September; playback polish 12 September 2026.

What changed. The current 60-second R14 geometry preview includes improved depth precision and antialiasing.

What remained open. Cinematic lighting, character action and physical acceptance remain open.

Next work: V52 R15 service-detour and G05 mechanical prototypes. These are separately labeled candidates, not replacements for the completed R14 movie.

Shot 004 / From image to space.

We treated the supplied generated shot as visual evidence, selected nine manual landmarks, built two independent vessel meshes and fitted a shared camera. The comparison makes both the match and its limits visible.

Source frame 58 of shot 004Actual paired-vessel A01 geometry renderSource ← wipe → Geometry

6 of 9 manual anchor targets within tolerance.

Open targets: S03 near forward belt junction, S04 aft belt termination, and N01 aft wheelhouse roof corner. Mean residual is approximately 15.2 px; maximum approximately 27.3 px at 1280 × 720. These manual correspondences are not a calibrated camera solve or a whole-shape accuracy score.

  1. Choose the anchor frame. Frame 58, zero-based; approximately 2.417 seconds.
  2. Name the landmarks. Light belt, roof edges, hull termination and wheelhouse corners.
  3. Block both vessels independently. Separate editable meshes in a shared scene.
  4. Fit the shared camera. Adjust position, field of view and off-axis principal point. This is an artist fit.
  5. Measure residual error. Compare the nine manual targets and inspect full silhouettes.
  6. Correct geometry. A better point score is useful only if the hull still makes sense in other views.

ST. ELMO and NIGHTINGALE remain proposed names. Unseen hull structure, engineering and staging remain provisional.

What is still wrong.

The current model is a work in progress. Vessel transit, gate service, crane crossings and hydraulic acceptance remain open. The R15 G05 prototype still needs geometry repair; shot 004 still has three open correspondence targets.
